Newspaper Promoted Prostitution, Police Say
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Three advertising executives are behind bars after police said they knowingly published prostitution ads in their weekly publication.Orlando Weekly's director of classified advertising, Jarrell B. Martin, line account executive, Katherine Casey Miller, and display account executive, Christopher M. Whiting, were taken into custody Saturday while at a job fair representing the newspaper.
They were charged with facilitating prostitution and benefiting from its proceeds.
Investigators said the trio sold ads to undercover officers posing as representatives of prostitutes, who explicitly said they wanted to promote their prostitution business.
Orlando Weekly earned more than $750,000 from ads in its "adult services" section and more than $1.25 million from its "massage" section. Those are common destinations for prostitution ads, according to the affidavit.
The trio is being held at Orange County jail. Their bond has not been set.
